When Elon Musk capped his Inauguration Day speech with a salute highly reminiscent of a certain someone, the Internet reacted with justifiable outrage.

But among the adjectives used to describe his gesture—far-right, fascist, and Hitlery—there was one glaring omission: unoriginal.
