We need heroes right now, and Ann Telnaes is a great one.

Ann's closing remark was as powerful as her cartoons.

Ann is great!! Oligarchs and the Southern Strategy of Nixon and the GOP is in full bloom to try to end our democracy. The Guardian has some interesting historical pieces about the Koch family, (Citizens United) and Prescott Bush. Who is it that put the judges in place to do this?? I think we may now know who the "Deep State" is. We saw the new generation of them all get together at the inauguration.

I agree! I'm assuming that she lost her salary from the WaPo, so I hope that being an annual subscriber -- hopefully one among many thousands -- will help her pay her bills.

She needs many, many, many others. A massive legal fund when her cartoons offend, a few billionaires that still believe in democracy, the new FCC criminal that TRump picked to think she is harmless and bodyguards to protect her against the newly released Jan. 6th felons..........did I miss anything???

Yes, and she should be celebrated, not only for her wit and wisdom but for her artistic talent and her taking a stance and following through on her beliefs!👏👏👏. She is truly a strong, brilliant lady. I haven’t had time to look up the author of this cartoon, but I find it remarkable and I call it the Bishop’s Gambit. Every bit as clever as Ann! https://1drv.ms/i/c/ee776f29ced2d0b2/EVK0KsFzwUxPrfHx2Eu0h9EBQ0pncImABnEONPbO_PwRIw

Thank you again, Andy!!! Ann is so right in saying that it’s not a leap to see us all get snitched on. We’re all in this grist mill together and it’s key to protect all our rights!!!

I'm putting her on my list, which includes way more women than men. Why is that? Probably because while they don't have more balls (none in fact) they may have more integrity.

Satire - it's only funny because it's true, and we need to laugh to offset the dismay.

Love and support both of these substacks - keep making good trouble.

Besides Ann (annual) and Andy, I also subscribe to Dan Rather. I'm hoping to retain my sanity over the next four years and am counting on Substack to help.

I had canceled the Post even before this travesty but was very glad I did after the censorship. I also no longer buy from Amazon. Big middle finger to Bezos. I’m a paid subscriber to Andy and Ann! We do what we can do as the little people.

You are both heroes to me! I heard some of the inauguration speech and it was far, far worse than I ever imagined it could be, and the ramblings afterward were horrific. I too felt nauseated. What created the greatest cognitive dissonance for me, however, was looking at all those people in the Rotunda, people who looked like they were educated, intelligent, who were well-dressed and looked like people I might have over for dinner, and they were all smiling and cheering and happy that Trump has arrived, like the Second Coming (or first, if you happen to be Jewish)! I will never never understand how this country came to this. And rather than feel totally powerless, I know that what I can do is practice kindness and do the right thing in my little corner of the Universe. Perhaps if enough of us practice this we'll make the world a better place in the midst of insanity.

I love to see a post by her in my emails, now. I ditched WaPo over the Harris endorsement, and i found out how much I missed her unique worldview. Yes, I am paying more for independent journalism, but getting Ann Telnaes, Andy Borowitz, Jeff Tiedrich, Paul Krugman, Jay Kuo, and all the other great modern thinkers in my emails every day is empowering.

I renewed my subscription to WaPo last year mainly because Ann, Dana Milbank, and Jennifer Rubin hadn't left. Now, only Dana remains and honestly, as good as he is, he just doesn't justify my spending any more money on the disaster Bezos has created from a once exceptional newspaper.

Excellent podcast. Supporting those who speak out/draw is essential to keeping the "creep" -figuratively and literally - out of our lives and protecting freedom of speech. People who think it won't/can't happen are delusional or just want these 4 years (minus 4 days!) to pass.

Thanks for what you and Ann do!
