Yeah, and you know what? The goons on the Trump squad are making fun of the "old hippies" and the "90-year-olds" protesting in Washington. Laughing at them. Saying they should go home and take naps. Laughing at their grey hair. Well, I'm one of those "old hippies" who is protesting. I may color my hair, but it's turning grey underneath. I may not be in my 90s, but I"m in my 80s. And I am a grandmother. Don't fuck with me.
Another "Grey Lady" who's a veteran of the Vietnam War Era protests here.
A few years back I had a neighbor who could do Ditzy Old Lady like nobody's business. I watched traffic cops, the HOA, sales persons, etc. just give up when they couldn't get through to her. I was never sure how much of this was an act and how much was just her. But if it was an act, it was a good one. I'm trying to emulate it.
I am with you, Donna. I might not have grandchildren, but I am certainly old enough to have great-grandchildren. I am proud to be an old hippie — We stopped the Vietnam War, got civil rights laws passed, and won Roe v. Wade, didn't we? I rarely have time for a nap because I am working hard for democracy every day by joining protests at every opportunity, writing letters, making calls, and attending meetings in support of my local Democrats. Gray hair? The SOBs can go ahead and laugh at mine. I am still smarter than all of them put together. That applies most assuredly to RFK, Jr., who could not read or understand a scientific paper if his life depended on it.
Donna, I am old enough to be a granny and have a lot of "children" (as an educator with dozens and dozens of former students who call me their "history mom") and I agree: we are tough as old boots and twice as angry as the young 'uns.
We’re fearless. At every demonstration, I find my tribe of fierce grandmothers, chanting shoulder-to-shoulder with the youngsters. They bring the energy—we bring the steel. We know why we’re here, and we don’t flinch.
I want a video of this! Cat ladies AND their pussies (so to speak) hurling really stinky wet cat food bombs at the vantz and/or the vantz in his limo. Really piss off that Maybelline bedbug! But gotta get the kitties in on the action.
Umm, I prefer the stuff I carry around in bags when I take my standard poodle for a walk. I have actually threatened obnoxious people with those little bags. Happy to collect them for anyone who wants or needs them . . .
Andy. Your satire is a shelter in this moral apocalypse. Trump is, as Bill Moyer realized, the Furies, not their liberator. Please remind us once in a while of the abject horror of this man. We can take it. Thx, Lawrence
Yes, my fellow Grandmothers, we must fight this tyrant. Do you remember the night Nixon resigned? We have the power and must unite! Our stories show our country what it means to be an American 🇺🇸
I'm not a grandmother, however, at my age I still want to fight for what is right in our nation. He IS a tyrant NOT a man that wants to govern are nation. Why oh why we elected a man that is corrupt, a liar, cheat, and kind of a mobster who hires more mobster I will NEVER know! I do have great nieces and nephews galore!
I love the t-shirt idea Linda! I'm 79 and have been to 4 marches in NC and plan to go to the one on Oct. 18.. so plenty of time to get a new t-shirt to add to my collection!! I love that there have been so many seniors at the rallys I've been to! I just joined "Grandparents for Democracy!"
Overwhelmingly positive and neutral. Truckers LOVE us. A choice handful give us a finger, do the Trump pump, yell, or very occasionally try to clip us with their truck mirrors. We've been recently denied access to the I-81 overpass by VDOT and we've worked with Shenandoah Valley print / NPR media to get several stories in response to this clear First Amendment restriction. We've been there every week since early March with NOT ONE safety incident; we're very organized and trained. Three people (all our age) decided to push and get arrested / court summons. That just helps OUR outrage machine.
Thank you for the timely reminder of the value and power of consistent collective action, no matter your age. Stamina and courage indeed! May we replicate their example before it’s too late.
I’m a 76-year-old Jewish grandmother, and Stephen Miller is afraid of me. Greeted by noisy elderly protesters in Union Station in D.C. in August, Miller appeared flummoxed. He muttered: “We’re going to ignore these stupid white hippies that all need to go home and take a nap…” Magats do not know the difference between information and wisdom. Aging Hippies do. I can’t wait to read this book! Thanks, Andy.
Thank for all you’re doing to expose the evildoing in this regime and how you inspire us to find the ways we can help and speak out. You are a master at balancing the telling of horrible happenings with absolutely fantastic humor! I’m so grateful for all you’re doing!
I have imagined a cabinet meeting going like this: The Secretaries line up in alphabetical order by height to osculate Donny's posterior while singing, "We Shall Overcomb."
This Grandma appreciates the shoutout to those of us who are currently doing all we can to leave our grandchildren a better world, I look forward to reading the book.
Our NorEast grandgirl created the flowery graphics on my best sign: "Why, yes, I can do this every fucking weekend." (She and her brother took part in the first Women's March. It makes a woman proud to be an ancestor.)

I am proud of the many grandmothers in our TBR community who are resisting the Trump regime. ❤️

Get on with your bad self, Donna! Don't fuck with any of us! I'm proud to be a fierce granny, too! GRANNY POWER!!!
Right in Floofie and Donna!!
Love “Don’t fuck with me”.
Goons that should trip and fall off the roof with Trump!
Fingers crossed John. Fingers crossed!! Loook he can fly!!! Thuddd…🥳😏
You betcha!!

There are grandfathers doing so also. 😉✊
Me too-and I’m not resisting for me, I’m resisting for my children, grandchildren & my extended family of young people.
We’re fearless. At every demonstration, I find my tribe of fierce grandmothers, chanting shoulder-to-shoulder with the youngsters. They bring the energy—we bring the steel. We know why we’re here, and we don’t flinch.
MTF=Make Trump Flinch!
Why thanks😍
I've been pointing out this article in Smithsonian Magazine for months. It has more details about what the regime did to people. Horrifying. But yes, the abuelas and others are not letting anyone forget. https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/four-decades-after-fall-argentina-dictatorship-fight-over-country-darkest-chapter-reopening-grievous-wounds-180985587/ Something to read while you're waiting for the book to arrive. (Can't wait to read it!) When I read that article, I asked myself if this could happen in the US. I didn't like the answer I got.
That will give me nightmares. I could not finish it.
Not a grandmother, but certainly of the age vantz had in mind when he referred to the cat ladies. I'll have a placard, please, with a side of disdain.
Throw cat food bombs at his limousines!

😂😂😂

Excellent tactic! Better than a Subway sandwich!!😏

I will Andy. Thanks for helping us see the lighter side of terror, unless that’s one oxymoron too far. You are a light. Larry
Lawrence, your "lighter side of terror" flashed MAD Magazine in my eyes. It works.
Lol!! They were great!😊
So, you go by Larry not Rubin?

You're an honorary grandmother, Phyllis. Whether or not we're parents. we're still responsible for the world's kids, including the adult ones.
Thank you Andy!
Seconded. I'll take an Andy Like over a Nobel Peace Prize.
--or a Nobel in Pieces Prize!
Darn tootin'! Our family is the whole family of humankind, and we are its caregivers and protectors.
Love “Darn tootin”!
You’re in!🥳
Love “mobster”!
--and maybe they will join you? They must!
And what it means to be a grandmother and a descent human being
You mean, "decent". Trump and his ilk are a descent from true humanity.
Good catch & riposte.
My newest t-shirt: GRANTIFA, Grandmas Against Fascism
I protest twice a week without fail, sometimes three times a week, in a very red rural area of Virginia.
Thank you!
Yes! Thank you!
Love your shirt! Another great slogan by an older woman is "Make Dystopia Fiction Again"
Utopia not Dystopia?
Spot on!
Wow. What sort of reaction do you get from onlookers?

Oh, yes!! That’s genius! Let’s get one. We can wear it with “Newsom Was Right About Everything ” ball caps…🥳😏
You go, GRRRL!!! Big respect!
Great T-shirt idea! Did you have it made or were you able to order one?
Yup! Don’t mess with my grandkids-I’ll have your nuts in a twist!!! They are why I protest!!
FIERCE, Teresa!!! BIG LOVE to strong, dedicated, awesome abuelas como ti!
thanks to cohen gilliland for bringing this important story to an English-speaking audience at the time that we really need it!
Thank you for the timely reminder of the value and power of consistent collective action, no matter your age. Stamina and courage indeed! May we replicate their example before it’s too late.

I saw him make that statement about stupid OLD white hippies. He needs to be locked in a room with us.
I’d love to see that!
What a great YouTube fully monetized video that would make!
YES!!! Let me at him! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr..........
Charge your Taser first, Floofie!
Ignore at your peril, Miller!
Thank for all you’re doing to expose the evildoing in this regime and how you inspire us to find the ways we can help and speak out. You are a master at balancing the telling of horrible happenings with absolutely fantastic humor! I’m so grateful for all you’re doing!
Honored that people like you listen to what I have to say.
Agree 100%! Thanks Andy!
I have imagined a cabinet meeting going like this: The Secretaries line up in alphabetical order by height to osculate Donny's posterior while singing, "We Shall Overcomb."
You win the Internet for the day! You lose points for creating an image for which I need brain bleach.
Thank you. I guess?
--after which they seek medical help for their shriveled lips!
OMG!!! That's brilliantly conceived and written! BIG THANKS!
And I agree with BTAM Master -- I now need brain bleach.
This Grandma appreciates the shoutout to those of us who are currently doing all we can to leave our grandchildren a better world, I look forward to reading the book.

This sounds like what we need in the USA.
Maybe grandmothers could give each ICE agent a flower and walk away.
Thank you Ms. Cohen Gilliland and Andy for keeping those tragic events alive.
Sharpies! They are easier for handwriting experts to decipher the author.
Hahahaha!! I love it!😂😏
Thank you for bringing this book to our attention! This is the first (and thus far ONLY) time I have heard of it.
Very interesting and relevant interview, thank you Andy!
