Given Trump’s latest round of tariffs, I’m awfully glad I stocked up on hockey sticks.

Carla Spackler's avatar

Donnie should get the puck out of here.

Joseph M Becker's avatar

When I was a kid - in the 1950s - the phrase was, “Make like a vanishing hockey player and get the puck out of here."

Sandra Greer's avatar

Make like the shepherd and get the flock out of here.

Love it!

Reminds me when we took our children [13 and 10 - ages, not number of children] on a road trip through England. Did you ever have to wait interminably long at a crossing for a train to pass? Driving on a one ane dirt road in the Cotswalds, we were STOPPED while a line of every sheep in the UK meandered across the lane, and in slow motion. No, I did not take a bath in Bath. When in Bath, try a Sally Lunn bun. For those who want to get ‘stoned’, while it does not have as many liths as Stonehenge, Avebury is not crowded and a wiser choice by far.

Sandra Greer's avatar

Too bad there was not a working sheep dog. They move them right along. Of course, there has to be space for them to get into.

Penny Pawl's avatar

When I was at Stonehenge, I found that there is even a place where they used wood to build a similar circle.

I really wish that "Orange would be the new Black", but the orange gargoyle will never see the inside of the prison, sigh. Teddy is one of the few Republicans of the 20th or 21st century, that can be quoted proudly, "Speak softly and carry a big stick; you will go far." In NE and Canada that stick is a hockey stick. My paternal grandparents were both born in the Atlantic Provinces, I guess I am eligible to become a Canadian citizen, but I have no birth certificates for either. But I am not going anywhere, anyway, and although I am not indigenous, I have evidence of currently 65 direct line ancestors that were either born or immigrated to the USA over 350 years ago, and I am a proud radical left, godless communist, Dumocrat. Come and get me, you bastard. Thanks Andy and fellow TBRs for giving my morning rant chant an outlet. Love and hugs.

Leigh Partington's avatar

Great comment - ditto for me - my paternal grandfather was British and my paternal grandmother’s family was Irish - my mom’s side was English/German. We are all “aliens” unless indigenous! Left on, Dumocrats!!!

Lynn Hammonds's avatar

I had one of those 'shower epiphanies' this morning, sparked by NPR's interview of a lauded Black actor; why can't folks appreciate differences in HUMANS like we do in our beloved animals? A horse is a horse, but also maybe an Arabian, or a Shire; a dog is a dog, but also maybe a Poodle, or a Beagle; a cat is a cat, but also maybe a Persian, or a Manx. And most 'animal people' know the 'mixes' are the hardiest, and often the smartest.

Stephanie MacLeod's avatar

Just like cats and dogs, human mixes are often healthier. One of the most difficult aspects of helping endangered species recover is the limited gene-pool. Isolated human populations can often have health problems for the same reason. In humans, race is a social construct, we are too closely related to be split scientifically into separate races. We are all brothers and sisters.

felice's avatar

trump has to die before his cabinet , congress, and the supreme court are brave enough to speak up. I guess they all like living in a government of their own making and they all have enough enough money to survive this abortion of an administration.

LiverpoolFCfan's avatar

And once he's gone they'll all pretend that they never liked him anyway.

I hope they get ostracized (or worse) by both MAGA and the sane people.

Infamy and ignominy.

John's avatar

Oh I don't think they'll pretend. The pretending is what they're doing now.

Floofie Snapz Back!'s avatar

Oi! Well-snarked!! And I'm kinda hoping for tar & feathers me own self.

Wendy Tucker's avatar

What continues to bewilder me is why his sycophants are afraid of him; they have toadied to his claims of omnipotence, he believes it, and now they are also firm believers. He's just a fat, vain, poorly educated blowhard who now has minions who fear him. Why?

Anne Fletcher-Jones's avatar

Either he has (a) really bad stuff on them, (b) they were always all in on his evil and he just gave them permission to stop pretending to be decent humans, or (c) he hates the same people they hate which makes it all right for them.

Susan Stone's avatar

I think that they are less afraid of him than they are of losing their golden meal ticket to riches.

Hugh Jarce's avatar

I vote for mainly (b), with a sprinkling of (c).

Floofie Snapz Back!'s avatar

Gotta go with a combo plate of all 3. We all know tRUMP uses extortion to control at least some folks, so (a) does have credence too (but sadly no clearwater).

Doreen Dalesandro's avatar

It's illegal, isn't it? ( deliberately vague about what "it" is.)

Floofie Snapz Back!'s avatar

YES!!! And **snik snik snik**

Floofie Snapz Back!'s avatar

This is one moment when I fervently wish that built-in obsolescence would exert its perverse self and do the right thing for this beleaguered nation and that the whole damnable maladministration would just go *POOF* like they got beamed up... or down (more likely)...

If not that, then howz about spontaneous combustion? (in keeping with the fiery theme)

Stephanie MacLeod's avatar

Spontaneous Combustion, Just Go Poof, Beamed Up or Down, all excellent suggestions.

Go to Ancestry or perhaps the Canadian government will have a registry where you might find their birth certificates. My father was born in Poland in 1914. He didn’t ever have his birth certificate because he was told there wasn’t one due to the war. The Polish government did, in fact, have it!

Stephanie MacLeod's avatar

Love hearing that! My dad was born in 1915 in Revere, MA, have his. My problem is his parents, we are pretty sure my grandmother's was lost in the munitions explosion in Halifax Harbor in 1917. My grandfather was born in PEI supposedly, but the records were horrible until 1904. He had migrated to the US in 1888, so all his records are from after that. My sister and I split the Ancestry world subscription, but still zilch.

Marlene Lerner-Bigley (CA)'s avatar

My sister and my daughters are applying for German & Polish citizenship. Both of our parents were Holocaust victims. My dad came to America in 1938 and my mom came from Berlin in 1939. It was actually the Polish attorney who found my dad’s birth certificate. My sister and I both got emotional as he thought it didn’t exist.

Stephanie MacLeod's avatar

Wow, that is intense. My daughter visited Dachau last fall, she cried, and was very unsettled, but she felt it was important to go. She was a teaching assistant for a Holocaust course at Brandeis, even though an undergrad there. The professor was elderly and needed support, and picked my daughter out of the whole class. Can you tell how proud I am of her. My father and my father-in-law were in the Army Air force in the Pacific during WII. It horrifies me to think we are creeping back to those times.

Joseph M Becker's avatar

Little Nazi Stephen Miller is a self-hating Jew.

Then again, he seems to hate everyone.

What a slimy, little shit.

BTW: I am Jewish.

Marlene Lerner-Bigley (CA)'s avatar

What an experience! That’s a trip she will never forget and what an honor for her to be picked.

Ten years ago, I went to the Holocaust Museum in DC with 2 of my first cousins. We reached the area where all of the camps were mentioned. I found the one called Chelmno and broke down. Our grandparents were gassed at that camp in 1942.

My dad went into the Army in 1941 to go back to Europe to fight the Nazis. The Army sent him to the Pacific Theater also: Papua New Guinea.

Veronika Grimm-Matthews's avatar

The same to you! Much enjoyed your comments and share your political orientation even though my ancestors were wandering Jews, as I am, having come to the US as a refugee warmly welcomed in the 1957 US. Today I would not want to be a refugee in Trump's Miller's and their fascist gangs country

Stephanie MacLeod's avatar

I am consistently 4% Jewish, daughter, too. She went to Brandeis, and loved it there. Told her roommates proudly, that she was 4% Jewish. We are not sure of the ancestor, but it is the only non-western European DNA me or my kids have. Their dad has more English than King Charles, lol. I use my birth name, so lots of highland Scots. Love, love this stuff.

Floofie Snapz Back!'s avatar

Our family tree research uncovered Sephardic (Sefardic) Jews that fled the Spanish Inquisition in the 1500s, named Cohen but rescrambled into the anagram Enoch when they eventually made it to England after doing their fair share of wandering from country to country in search of a new home. Today I'm proud to be called Bubby (Bubbe) by my grandson.

Stephanie MacLeod's avatar

That is great, Floofie. So much fun to find out about this stuff. The Spanish Inquisition was horrible and went on for a long time. But as a Monty Python fan, "Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!" always pops in my brain.

Floofie Snapz Back!'s avatar

I know! Me, too! Love how they tortured the old lady by making her sit in the comfy chair, that she snuggled down into with a delighted sigh. And then they're baffled that their torture methodology doesn't seem to be working.

Miller is a Little Nazi, self-hating Jew.

FWIW: I am Jewish, and VERY proud of my heritage.

This morning’s post was the best, I can always count on you to give me my first giggle of the day. I’m sure trump thinks the orange sky is definitely a tribute to him. Just like yesterday when I read where he was asked about having time to read he answered he always likes to read anything about himself. 🤣

Wendy Tucker's avatar

I agree--I also think he might see the orange smoke as God's gift.

SUZANNE Marie McAdam's avatar

Ah, Elizabeth..it's not likely that you'd bump into a Trump voter

if you came to visit. They only travel to Trump rallies. The rest

John Townsend's avatar

They weren't!

Maybe in five to ten years, you can visit again after some semblance of the U.S. ship

Thoughtful of Canada to give the orange smoke that endearing acrid, irritating, opaque presence we're accustomed to when we endure his unhinged diatribes.

Floofie Snapz Back!'s avatar

And maple syrup. I'd better order another half-gallon.

I should have chosen jockey sticks too.

Also I don't understand why Donald would complain about the smoke color.

Or perhaps just someone who isn’t a thin skinned malevolent narcissistic compulsive liar and the world’s biggest hypocrite. I’d settle for that.

Joseph M Becker's avatar

In his 1886 essay, cum 2005 Princeton University Press monograph, ‘On Bullshit’, the late Princeton Emeritus Professor of Philosophy Harry G Frankfurt distinguishes between the bullshitter and the liar.

The following is excerpted from Wiki: "Frankfurt determines that bullshit is speech intended to persuade without regard for truth. The liar cares about the truth and attempts to hide it; the bullshitter doesn't care whether what they say is true or false.”

I disagree with the idea that the liar “cares about the truth’’. He/she/they are aware of the truth but choose to prostitute it.

Trump is a BULLSHITTER and a LIAR, as well as a LIAR and a BULLSHITTER.

Why won’t someone feed Trump, his children, his Cabinet, Moscow Mitch McConnell, MAGA et alia. to the Canadian wildfires?

Has Trump yet criticized the Canadians for not raking the leaves in their forests?

A few years back, he lobed that accusation against Californians.

Floofie Snapz Back!'s avatar

Excellent discussion and musings on that distinction! Yes, indeedy, he is a BULLSHITTER and a LIAR, as well as a LIAR and a BULLSHITTER.

And BTW, I think you mean lobbed. It can't be lobed since T is sans functioning grey matter.

SUZANNE Marie McAdam's avatar

Can think of nothing more perfect than an orange pall over Washington DC! It symbolizes exactly what trump has done to the DC area & the country. We are aflame with his hatred & retributioin. I wonder will that retribution only come close to being satisfied by the complete destruction of the USA, much like what happened to the Third Reich after their 'dear leader' was finished with his country.
