Absolutely! Profiles in Ignorance is unique. It is at once deeply demoralizing and hilariously funny. Infuriating and Informative. Heartbreaking and ---you get the picture. It's the perfect read for these schizophrenic times. My only advice is that they should put a warning label on the cover: Beware! Choking hazard!
I wanted to echo your comment about the amount of research that went into this book. Can't believe you passed it on but maybe your sister-in-law is a very special person. No one would want my copy as it is filled with yellow highlighter. In the first chapters, I tried to hold back (it slows down the reading), but finally just got out the marker. Andy's the best.
Now that CBS will have a 'bias' monitor as a result of the Paramount/CBS merger blessed by the FOTUS, I'd like to hear your take on how this might change some of the shows we associate with CBS. On Survivor do the women have to stay in camp to clean and cook? Does CSI get renamed to ICE? Will the Amazing Race only feature hetero couples and stay in the US so we don't get exposed to other cultures? Love to see future essays about changes you expect to see!
I really enjoyed the way Kamau phrases things and to hear about donorchoose.org. That every comedy show can have a point where listeners are challenged to make their world a little bit better than it was when they came. Comedy with empathy, comedy that doesn't have to destroy. Even though we do want a regime change in DC...Thanks for this boost of hopefulness. Please come to Spokane!
I loved this!! And I loved that Kamau won Celebrity Jeopardy for Donor's Choose.
My Donor's Choose story: I saw Stephen Colbert interview the founder years ago on the Colbert Report, and decided to check it out. Since two of my sons are dyslexic I chose a classroom that helped students with reading and donated finishing off the teacher's wish. A few months later a package arrived in the mail. It contained several hand written notes and pictures that were thank you notes from each of the students. It brought me to tears (and still does as I write this.) What a great organization, and I still donate all these years later.
I have supported Donors Choose for MANY years, and was so glad to see that Stephen Colbert loved it too.
I explain it to friends [teachers whose classes need supplies write in, requests are reviewed by Donors Choose and posted on-line, then folks can review and donate].
This system works well both to support needy classes/students/teachers AND allows folks [donors] who can only give a limited amount to participate. Numerous small donations add up to a meaningful gift that a classroom has requested.
It's particularly great for us "old folks" who don't need more trinkets or gee-gaws: our relatives can contribute to DC instead and make some lives better.
And yes, you will receive thoughtful thank you notes from the kids.
Fun watching both of you. Especially together. Might be brothers, or cousins!
I know this isn’t Snopes, but could you give clarity on the rumor I heard, that the Blue Raspberry Celsius drinks were specially canned for Hegseth, but got misdelivered to the stores.
This is a terrific interview, and I really appreciate the way you work the discussion of the details of creating a story into your criticism of media. Thanks, guys!
Carmel, CA is "less bubbly" and on par with Tulsa, OK , really?? Hmmm. In any case, I'm just down the road in Santa Cruz and will be happy to see Kamau on his tour.
Thanks for this interview, Andy. And I second Saudra L.'s comment!
I love this interview! Love hearing about DonorsChoose. Thank you for Mr. Bell. And on a different note: I read a post (Mugged by Reality) that maintained that, essentially, MAGA didn't need Trump any more---he's accomplished, or set in motion, all the destruction he can---and so it doesn't matter if he's taken down by the Epstein Slime. This does not make me a happy camper.
Let me add a somewhat mitigating message--history doesn't move in a straight line. The election of Obama, marriage equality, the Affordable Care Act--all of those represented progress. We're now dealing withe backlash. But we'll emerge from this Dark Age eventually. The sooner the better.
My first reaction to this comment was "This is one hell of a backlash!" My next reaction was "That must mean we're one hell of a threat." So. Good news, bad news, as usual.
You’re worth way more than whatever I pay you as a subscriber. You and Rachel Maddow deserve Pulitzers!
I was not fishing for a compliment, but I appreciate this. Thank you!

I agree! Laugh-out-loud funny and infuriating about what this country has become... Andy keeps me sane.
Yes! Having read about Sarah Palin et al in “Profiles in Ignorance” Andy’s posts are a well needed relief from the fray!
Loved the book and wanted it in my library but have now passed on to my sister in law and hope I get it back.
Incredibly researched with your trademark wit, Andy❣️

I know, Sharon - mine was annotated plenty, too - maybe she will just read the highlights and pass it back to me sooner (than later)

David, let me know when your stand up comedy tour comes to DC. 😉 Seriously, very witty!
You are the best Andy. So glad I found you!
I'm glad you're here!

Totally agree.
If you're looking for off the bubbly path venues -- how about Toledo, Ohio?

Kamu is also a clothing ambassador for wonderful merchandise site called Mahogany Mommies. He might not mention it but I will. Love their stuff.
You will always have my support.
Echoing the comments below, Andy, you ROCK!
I want that as a car sticker—“ Make the world a marginally better place.”
--or "Nobody is Marginal".
Being able to smile (sort of...) at the current madness is a blessing. And subscriptions to your column are so much more reasonable than psychiatry.
Fun watching both of you. Especially together. Might be brothers, or cousins!

Hegseth should have been canned by Fox, but was misdelivered to the White House!
Cancelling my health insurance cause I get SO MUCH MORE from ‘your’ posts and humor guests. TY Andy 😅

Let not Carmel, CA or Tulsa, OK be marginalized in the "bubbly" department.
Let us say they are equally fabulous!
You absolutely make my day. Thanks for your thoughts and comments. I enjoy and agree!
