I know one woman who voted for Dump. In 2016 I asked her why. She said that his behavior is manly - the sexual abuse is just a man being a man - she thought it was "cute" (her word). And she's a straight up white supremicist, so that worked for her. I asked what she thought of Dump being an agent for Russia, and she said that it wouldn't bother her because it wouldn't affect her life in any way. I had no idea that people could be so selfish and ignorant, but apparently, there are many. I'm sure that she voted for him all 3 times.

I think it's even more disgusting that any women voted for Dump.

Expand full comment
Marmo's avatar

But, Annette, these are not real "Christians" - they use religion as their excuse to be sinful (I hope there really is a Judgement Day - they'll all be surprised). And they probably don't feel much like men, wich is why they are violent. Violence is easy - strong people are not violent. I had no idea that there were so many weak losers in our country - trying to blame their failures on others and resorting to violence and hate to feel relevant.

The best way to actually be relevant is to achieve something - but these losers want the quick and easy way that doesn't really exist.

I wonder…I believe social media is either a major cause of it, or exposes the dark side of human nature more readily in the US and probably everywhere

Expand full comment
Anathema Addams's avatar

I think it's a major cause, both because of its nature and because it's being weaponized. I read a recent article in Science Today that said we're becoming dumber, and the author cited our exposure to a constant stream of verbiage from others. We're primates that evolved in small groups. The optimal size for our groups is enough individuals to provide genetic diversity and safety but few enough that all members are recognizable as "us". We're way beyond the "us" number, and we're seeing the stresses that this causes.

Anathema Addams's avatar

I think a good part of our country has sunk that low, or else we're seeing them for what they are. I forget where I heard the quote, but someone once observed that the horror of the Nazi era wasn't that they were monsters but that they were human. I no longer believe that humans are basically good. The capacity for evil is always present - it's just that some are more able to resist it, or they never experience situations that overwhelm their abilities. I think these are challenging times and many are not up to it.

I have been struggling with that same question, Anathema Addams, for decades. I studied Anthropology to try to better understand humans. I've wondered if good and evil are taught, or are they always there and the nurture is what brings out one or the other. But, you find good parents with bad children, and bad parents with good children. Some children share without being told to - some children are cruel without being told to be. So, where does all that bad come from?

I very much wanted to believe that all evil is taught, but I no longer believe that. I still believe that there is more good than there is evil - and I hope that by the time we climb out of the trouble that the world is now in, that I can still believe that. Right now, I still think that good can win.

Those of us who can control our environment enough to create our own peace and choose how much to engage with. (like I hose to live in a lovely progressive village though near DC) are lucky. Those who are forced to live in violent chaotic environments —much harder. Or those who have always lived in quiet rural areas and suddenly the world is changed in ways that seem alien and crazy and out of control feel victimized by it. It’s evolution at warp speed

Be sufficient to trigger a call from The Hague?

Just look at this nimrod, a self-serving killer,

With his hair in a style like the late Phyllis Diller.

What remains of his brain is so clearly insane,

And his lies are as bald as Meshuggina Miller.

When Trump exits a room, there’s a ling’ring aroma

Such as seeps from a deep-cut intestinal stoma.

We enjoy watching Donald’s crazed cabinet shows,

They can’t hold his attention, but they must hold their nose.

What a prospect, to think of a Dutch prison cell,

Where convicted war criminals stay a long spell.

One can’t stay awake, always ready to snooze,

And one can’t get to sleep without plenty of booze.

Two callous cold killers, who didn’t end well

Might be found, like Jeff Epstein,

Hung dead in their cell.
