Memorial Day is a good time to remember the guy who started an illegal war in Iran got out of military service with five deferments with “bone spurs” and called our fallen soldiers “suckers and losers.”

Mary-Jean Miner's avatar

I wouldn’t call it correct but it surely is accurate!

JBR's avatar

He has contempt for America. For him its just a bigger bank to rob and more ways of stealing money.

SoulLady's avatar

For me, I remember my parents always taking scores of family and friends to the "Tomb Of The Unknown Soldier". I remember, as vividly, the sound of the taps on their shoes, and the shifting of the rifles on their shoulders as I remember the sounds of "Taps" being played. There is still deep gratitude within me for all who serve...

Kim D's avatar

That's right. He has a criminal mind and is a citizen of no country. He thinks all Americans are suckers and losers and deserve to be looted. We're not citizens, we're marks.

Mary F Englebert's avatar

According to David Hannum (a banker who said it about P.T. Barnum), there is a sucker born every minute--and sadly, it appears American is full of them. Or at least enough of them who voted in 2016 and 2024.

MedjoolPalm's avatar

Stealing money with impunity.

Bill Morgan's avatar

It's so sad this creep will be President during the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence

MedjoolPalm's avatar

"sad"!? It's terrifying!

Sharon Martin's avatar

Both sad and terrifying!

Franca Garofalo's avatar

We need to joyously celebrate democracy and being king-free for 250 years in such a way that it completely overshadows his self serving, tacky festivities.

Dr. Richard's avatar

Call it what it is: TREASON!

Susan from OC's avatar

Not so much sad as infuriating!

Sandra Nicht's avatar

I should have copied that meme of Cadet Bone Spurs in a military uniform thanking him for his "service". Talk about Stolen Valor!

Dr. Richard's avatar

Add it to his “Nobel”.

Marc Panaye's avatar

I remember that.

In 2018 drump referred to the more than 1800 US marines who lost their lives during WW1 at Belleau Wood, laid to rest at the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery, as 'suckers' for getting killed.

This so-called "president" refused to go and honor these fallen US Marines because "he feared his hair would become disheveled in the rain"

Li's avatar

Vile suits him, never a military uniform.

Dr. Richard's avatar

…and demeaning John McCain fir having been wounded while he celebrates his pin prick on his ear as an act of courage. Oh, for want of two inches.

Erika Rosenfeld's avatar

I, too, thought about Trump’s disparaging of John McCain. He and I were at opposite ends of the political spectrum, but I greatly admired his character and honesty. I was old enough during the Vietnam War to know what American troops endured. McCain not only survived, he emerged with his integrity intact. Does Trump even know about the Hanoi Hilton?

Mary Gilbert's avatar

I agree-McCain & I differed on policy but he was a man of immense integrity & honor. When a woman screamed out that Obama wasn’t even an American during one of his rallies while he running for president, McCain corrected her immediately & sternly.

Dr. Richard's avatar

Always remember that and McCain’s tanking of a criminally-devastating MAGA FRAUD if a healthcare bill, and the thousands of other crimes of this seditious cult. NEVER AGAIN!

Ellen Nordstrom's avatar

In so many ways, I agree.

Had it been 2" closer, however, I believe that he would have become a martyr. I believe that it's a matter of time before he self-destructs figuratively and literally. Amen to Democracy Docket lawyers in the meantime, who are saving democracy from his absurd lawsuits, one lawsuit soon at a time. I agree that a remedy can't come soon enough...as in impeachment, further prosecutions PLURAL, and full release of the Epstein Files...a come-uppance will occur beginning in November. Then I can only wish sycophantic Republicans will finally turn on him.

Hah, so much for the agony of defeat. I prefer to remember getting married 36 years ago on a beautiful Memorial Day (date was actually the 28th, so not our true anniversary). I married my soul mate, a white guy, but one of the good ones, like, I am sure, the vast majority of TBR white guys, like you, Andy.

Lorenzo's avatar

Who gave us this freak?

Al Gorythm's avatar

All gave some

Some gave all

Trump didn’t give a shit

kate kobayashi's avatar

....and still doesn't

Richard's avatar

I agree with you 100%!

Wis's avatar

Actually, trump ran from serving his country (despite the bone spurs), and he continues to avoid serving his country today.

The real podiatric pathology; World’s biggest heel.

Robert E.'s avatar

And enough fake bonespurs to make your toes curl. Truly a boneheaded concoction.

Steve Benko's avatar

Following the ceremony, the president issued a blanket pardon of all podiatrists convicted of Medicare and Medicaid fraud, and declared them eligible for compensation from the Weaponization Slush Fund. "Their patients can all walk perfectly well, which shows they've been treated very badly," he reasoned.

Dr Marlene Snyder's avatar

Gratitude is a terrific thing. As I sit here laughing, I have huge gratitude to what ever it is in that brain of yours that can do this crazy stuff! Thanks!!

Andy Borowitz's avatar

Thank you! That means a lot to me.

Candace M.'s avatar

I’m with Dr. Marlene. You’re brilliant, Andy. I read podiatrist in the title and wondered: How is Andy going to make a funky link between podiatrists, Memorial Day, and you-know-who? A renaming of Arlington National Cemetery after the WORLD’S BRAVEST FOOT SOLDIER (WHO FOUGHT IN 2 WARS BUT I ENDED 8) Maybe Trump rambles over to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, stubs his toe and shouts, “IS THERE A FOOT DOCTOR IN THIS LOUSY PLACE?” Keep them coming, Andy. We need you to survive this bizarro MAGA world.

My father is a purple-heart recipient. My son is a Green Beret . Please honor this day.

Julia Varney's avatar

With the deepest gratitude I want you to know, each and every day I walk freely on American soil and I give thanks for their service.

Mary Gilbert's avatar

Ditto. My father served in WWII under Patton. According to his family he was never the same when he came home. May he and all the fallen soldiers from every US war rest in peace.

Patty W's avatar

And he continues to give nothing and take everything!

I started to hum the tune.

Thanks Lynne.

Sir Paul was great on the last show of Cobert. And what a great song to end on.

To the Beatles, to Stephen, to Democracy. May they all live on.

It was a bitter sweet show. Been watching Colbert since Daily show days. Check out a you tube with him doing a show from Monroe, Mich. that he did the day after.

Great but beat you - “Strangers with Candy” with Amy and Paul - 1999. You had to know they were special then.

Lucy K.'s avatar

I thought while watching the National Memorial Day Concert on PBS that the dodger-in-chief would've removed all the injured soldiers appearing had he been in charge.

Your report was on-point, but I can't quite picture the dodger weeping tears over anything, even himself, hard to imagine., anger seems to be his single emotion these days.

The Rickster's avatar

That show was compelling and a reminder of sacrifices to keep us free. Unless I’m wrong did you notice there were no women in the Joint Chiefs lineup or the higher echelons of our armed services?

Nancy T's avatar

The women have been fired

The Rickster's avatar

Believe me, Nancy T, that was a stark reminder of our current situation.

Diana's avatar

Yep, welcome to TrumpWorld! Women? What women?

Lynne's avatar

Woman should be home with their trump babies. Barefoot and pregnant.

Lucy K.'s avatar

Yes and also had mixed feelings when Gen. Dan Caine, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs came up to speak. I kept picturing him standing often near our hyper super unqualified Secretary of War, an unsettling image.

The Rickster's avatar

Was put off by his twiddling his thumbs as he spoke. BTW, I’m a Vietnam Era vet.

Lucy K.'s avatar

I actually didn’t notice that.

Thank you very much for your service! My late dad fought in Okinawa as an Army sergeant during WWII, he went through hell. Veterans deserve our gratitude & the best benefits always.

Candace M.'s avatar

Yes. As Nancy observed, “Aall the women have been fired.”

Robert E.'s avatar

Likely had a slivered onion in his breast pocket.

Dr. Judith Schlesinger's avatar

Yeowch!! Right to it, Andy! Bravo!

And while we're on it, it's basically a pity that most people see Memorial Day as just an excuse for a celebratory barbeque, or the official beginning of summer. Too few people cherish the day for its true meaning: honoring those who gave so much to keep us free. At least today, be sure to thank a Vet.

I liked what Adam Kinzinger said about this in one of his posts this week. He believes we should say happy Memorial Day and have the barbecues, all while remembering why we can do it freely. And yes, take every chance to thank a veteran!

Have you noticed that the land mass that forms the Strait of Hormuz looks like a bigly bone spur?

He is such a stain on our country, especially today. He has no respect for those who served, or gave their lives for us. He prefers to fund the insurrectionists who he knows will fight for him (maybe). The narcissist may be surprised when his minions take the money and run. I mean, look who is modeling behavior for them.
