I have nothing to add but: enjoy!

Andy, You’ve given me my first moments of ataraxia for the day ! Dogs are the best ! Thank you ! 🐶💕

Ellen Harris's avatar

Had to look that up 🤣.

Sandi's avatar

I had to look that up as well. Thought I might have missed a Def Leppard album there for a minute.

Eileen's avatar

Me too! A great addtion to the day, a bonus from the doggy tales/tails.

Beryl's avatar

I have no idea what ataraxia means but since you are responding to Andy it has got to be good and I am with you on that.

Punkette's avatar

Same here, Beryl, so I looked it up. My new favorite word! 🤩

Ataraxia: Perfect peace of mind, or calmness.

Annette's avatar

what a lovely word . . . we could all use a good dose of ataraxia (especially via Cookie and Mousse)

Pradnya Sikand's avatar

It is a lovely word ! Courtesy Massimo Pigliucci whose Stoicism Substack I follow ! Stoicism and the Satire of the incomparable Andy Borowitz-two powerful antidotes against the Trump poison ! ❤️

Teri Springer's avatar

Thank ancient Greek philosophers who coined the phrase. Especially Epicurius, Pyrrho, and Zeno- fathers of the Epicureanism, Pyrrhonism, and Stoicism schools of philosophy.

Annette's avatar

we need all the positive ammunition we can get!

five syllables! Needs a Haiku:

Ataraxia.

Dogs, flowers, trees, birds singing--

Ready for the day!

(I live in San Diego, so, yes, the flowers are blooming, sky is blue!)

Ruth Reeve's avatar

Thank you for the definition. What a lovely word!

Al Keim's avatar

I be attraxiaed to the word too.

Franca Garofalo's avatar

New word for today. Thank you!

SK's avatar

What a great new word. Thanks!!

Christa Le Clere's avatar

means serene calmness - we need that nowadays and dogs will always do that for me. My girl, Sadie, comes from a shelter and has been with me for 8 years.

Mary Sue Palazzari's avatar

Thank you for a happy start to the day!

So right! Thanks for reminding us how wonderful puppies of all ages and sizes are. As I'm the only non-working member of our household (retired, at least until we need more money), I'm alone during the day with our 75-lb rescue shepherd mix Ernie (from Tennessee--no kidding). While I'm hyperventilating and angrily scrolling through the latest awful news, or posting in response to some mealy mouthed article in the NYT, Ernie comes up to me whining and demanding to be taken out. Oh. Ok, Ernie.

Annette's avatar

Dogs (and cats, though they won't admit it) are so intuitive and know exactly what we need, when we need it.

Denise Bleak's avatar

Yup? The poking nose does it every time.

Edith Griffin's avatar

Bless you, Andy!

I’m in love with Cookie & Mousse - have been from the beginning. (& I’m a cat person!) We all do love you, Andy, but gotta say if they didn’t grace your pages, it would be a game changer & not in a good way. Our furry pals live in our hearts in a deep loving unconditional way only furry pal owners can understand. So keep those pix coming-I have far too many tales/tails of my own to recount here but suffice it to know that every time I see yours, my day can go on! Thank you, thank you! Best anti-election débâcle resolution ever!!

Those two are so cute!

Jim Gulick's avatar

Wonderful! Dogs are the best people!

Katherine P Duncan's avatar

Jim Gulick I like dogs better than I like most people.

Teri Springer's avatar

I think that is true of anyone who is a dog lover. Dogs are all the things most people are not: 100% honest, loving, kind......

Sarah McAuliffe-Bellin's avatar

I have a t shirt that says that

Jim Gulick's avatar

It’s a common sentiment.

Did they get rabies shots before or after?

So that's what that rash is on his neck!

My friends celebrate a weekly happy hour at the same home every Friday evening. There are 7 women and two dogs, named Ellie and Remy. Ellie resides at the home of the hostess while Remy lives down the street. Each week Remy's owner opens her door and directs Remy to go to happy hour. We listen for a distinct "thud" at the door and someone will always remark "Remy is here"! There is always great rejoicing upon his arrival!

Mina MacFarlane's avatar

Just what I needed this morning. And we have cats!

Cute puppies are the best medicine

Nice! Haven’t seen those before!

Thinking today of Princess Christina of Denmark, who, when offered marriage to England’s Henry VIII, laughed and declined: “If I had two necks, I might well offer him one, but alas I don’t.”

What world leader wants to enter negotiations with Trump & Toadies, Inc, now?

Linda Mitchell, KCMO's avatar

Oh Andy, Cookie and Mousse are perfection! My standard poodle (whom I rescued from a puppy mill where he was the stud probably producing pooches who looked a lot like your two) is sensitive to my daily triggering when I read headlines or listen to news but he is quite oblivious to the general tenor of the sh*tshow, being interested largely in snurffling, encountering his doggie friends on our walks, and sleeping. He's a very good boi.

Annette's avatar

Our cat, Mona, is feral and our vet said those are usually the most appreciative cats, once they adopt you. Our chunky old lady is vocal (she sounds like R2D2 at times) and needy, but we love her to the moon.

Linda Mitchell, KCMO's avatar

I have had many kitty companions over the years and all have been rescues who found me rather than the other way around. They were all, without exception, remarkable moggies.

Sarah McAuliffe-Bellin's avatar

We have 2 sibs who were feral. They’re nuts but we love them

Tricia Wilson's avatar

My bestie is also a standard poodle. So great that you could rescue your boy. Luckily for Blue he came from AKC ribbon winners and a loving, responsible small breeder. And I am luckiest to have a healthy, smart (too smart), seriously funny pal who takes me for walks in nature everyday to forget about everything else. Blue loves people and spreads so much joy on our walks. Just as Cookie and Mousse do for us today. Dogs are absolutely the best people.

Suzy Fraser's avatar

I'm sure you've heard the very apt description of Poodles but for those who haven't: "They have the brains of Einstein with the sense of humor of the three stooges." And it's true! :)

Denise Bleak's avatar

Dopey Dobermans are similar! Scheming gangsters.

Annette's avatar

My niece had a Doberman, Attila, who she called the Velcro dog. He would stick to you for attention; the most lovable dog I've ever known.

Katherine P Duncan's avatar

Linda Mitchell, both our dogs are rescues, one a purebred chocolate Lab, the other a Boxer/Hound mix. They are joys in our lives.

Victoria Feldman's avatar

Gee, Andy! You mean there’s no news out there? What a relief!

Victoria Feldman's avatar

Also, your pups are adorable.

Two cats were rescued at 10 years old after their owner passed away and the ex suddenly “developed” allergies. The smaller white one, Walter White, recently passed.

He quickly became an outdoor cat who stood up to the local foxes — letting out a scream every night. A fox scream is worse then a dem on a election night. He also held his ground against raccoons, dogs, and deer.

I have a video of Walter chasing a deer off our property.

His favorite activities were strolling through the middle of our street’s pickleball court and sneaking into other people’s houses.

I’ll post some of this on my Substack.

Without animals — as I always try to remind folks — we wouldn’t have anything to eat, or love unconditionally.

Frances López's avatar

As Francois Rabelais said, "If it weren't for the beasts, we would all live like scholars," reversing a popular saying of the day.

John (NJ-VT)'s avatar

Pictures under my notes. Looking for the deer video.

They are fun, but many do not get to 15 when they are that wild.

Suzy Fraser's avatar

Our older male cat had a Mexican standoff with a deer several years ago. It lasted a good ten minutes before they both quietly backed away simultaneously. lol

Annette's avatar

Walter sounds like our first cat, Stza. Stz lived through four of his lives before he passed - he was a badass cat!

John (NJ-VT)'s avatar

Sorry for your loss. God I miss Walter but we handled it humanly, something that is frowned upon us humans.

Need to drain that last dime out of you for those medical oligarchs!

We get the (?!) pleasure of watching Metamucillini disintegrate before our eyes, into a fleshy orange pustular pudding with tiny fingers. No dog will go near him d/t odor.

My grandmother and grandfather had a cocker spaniel named Pete. Every spring at shearing-time, he used to hide under the bed in shame until his fur grew out a little.

Susan Fernbach's avatar

My sister’s chow mix was always embarrassed when she came home with a shave. The other dog didn’t recognize her, even by smell, because of the scent the groomer sprayed on her. Good times!

Missy Nicholson's avatar

What a great way to start the day. Thank you Andy, Cookie, and Mousse.

Pam's avatar

A wonderful way to start the day. Thanks Andy🙏

Lesley Gudehus's avatar

Thank you—I needed that! Seeing those sweet photos, I felt my blood pressure go down. ❤️

They are so cute! There is nothing like the unconditional love of a dog. I get happy watching their joy and especially when they get the Zoomies!
