Thanks to all of you who protested, shared your stories, and spread the word. This community is strong ❤️

Thank you for this, Andy. So often we hear only the loudest voices, which are not necessarily the most important voices to us, just the loudest that media tends to pick up. Seeing and knowing tens of thousands of like minds are feeling/hurting/angry/frustrated/etc. assures that we are ineed not alone.

Andy, you erased my comment about the misalignment of message at the protest in Los Angeles yesterday. I'm surprised you did that. Misalignment is not going to help our cause. In fact it will be the opposite.

Kkraas. Yes please share. I think I know but not sure. And I understand what it is like being blocked and muted by liberals who don't want the whole truth.

I wish I could say that I agreed with the one in downtown Los Angeles, sponsored by the California Democratic Party. I have written them and my Senators about the absolute lack of alignment in the important messaging. It was supposed to be about Immigration. We showed up with our signs. Instead, we had to suffer through an anti-democratic, pro socialism and the workers rally. Each speaker slammed the two-party system and how both parties have not protected the Trans community, the workers, etc. etc. We're trying to stave off authoritarianism and their message is how horrible the current democratic system is. What kind of quality control does the Democratic party have when it comes to the events it sponsors?

Expand full comment
Phil M.'s avatar

Ok, that's what I thought. Two things caused the Democrats the most lost votes. Transmania and immigration insanity. First they threw all women (female) under the bus by going insane over trans-women. And they threw all working class Americans under the bus by demonizing them and glorifying immigrants. I like to separate Democrats from liberal extremists because the extreme left is more helpful to the GOP than anything.

1. It was not about LGBTQ. It was about trans-women MALE athletes competing against females. (no drag queens were involved)

2. Less than 1% of Hispanic immigrants work in agriculture. (they don't "pick our food")

This comment may get deleted, but the people need to stop repeating the same mistakes that put Trump in office.

Transmania ..... I sometimes think what a fortunate country the United States must be, that they have so few serious problems that they have time and energy to worry about trans people.

This is not meant to be a complainers corner. It's a cry for help. I've already written the party and my Senators.

I am sharing this in case anyone who is associated with the party can share this sentiment. We're steps away from authoritarian power and we need a higher caliber of message alignment than what I experienced. For some of the first time protest attendees, do you think they will want to come back. My other city Chicago had 100,000 show up. We had 1,000 at best. The second largest American city. Pitiful. Frankly, the speakers at the April 5 were also off topic. I left when a Brazilian speaker started slamming Brazilian ex president Bolsonaro. We are our own worst enemies.

Leave it to the DNC to misread the Dem voters' sentiments. They've fucked up the last few elections, and I have little or no faith in them.

Andy -- thanks for your leadership and soothing/inspiring satire!

I suspect your next TBR post will relay Harland Dorrinson's report on "Justa Dictum's" meeting with the Pope one day before the Pope's death and which world leader's advice Justa will follow. 🤔

Annette's avatar

Yes, world leaders (past and present) have been so kind and reverential of the Pope's passing . . . except for the White House and ConOLD, which posted a simple, canned message of R.I.P. And that's because ConOLD has no religious or moral compass. (Then again, its just me being snarky; tRump only wishes he could have the respect and admiration of all those who mourn today).

Andy, thanks as always for your erudite efforts to provoke thought and comic relief in retaliation to the insidious, unceremonious assault on our beloved Democracy.

Below is a link to a bevy of photos I captured at the Hands Off! protest in San Diego earlier this month. The sign depicting RGB giving tRump and Elon her own kind of sign (of the digital persuasion) made me LOL!

Another of my favorite signs depicted a bellowing tRump with the caption, "Does this ass make my country look small?"

I found myself while at the protest -- if just for a few hours -- comforted by the fact that so many are sharing our outrage and compulsion to act against tRump's evil empire and his United States of Stoopid.

I'm hoping they bring a few smiles to your and your reader/viewer's faces and a bit of salve on (y)our aching hearts as well.

Like so many of the protests we see sprouting across the US, the spirit at the event was beautifully captured with a sign that read, "Deport the Racists, Not the Immigrants." No one knows the value of our immigrants more than those of us living at the border. But it was the hat this gentle protester was wearing that brought me back to a different time. It's something we used to take for granted, yet in tRump's vile universe, something of which we now have to be reminded: It says, quite simply, "Be A Good Person."

Mamaroneck, New York, was a beautiful affair. Hundreds lined both sides of the road and welcomed the cars and trucks that honked their support and gave us a thumbs up. Big cities get thousands of marchers, but small towns stand tall, too!

Thank you to all who attended and thank you Andy for your push in advance and reporting on what a success this was!

There were about 300 of us in Springfield MA. I was amazed at what a high percentage of folks waved and beeped.

I've been doing bridge standouts for about 5 weeks. The first week, maybe 1 in 4 gave us the finger and the big trucks were silent. Last Tuesday, the trucks were honking like crazy and maybe 1 in 10 gave us the finger. There is hope!

Watched the ceremony at Old North Church with Heather Cox Richardson celebrating 250 anniversary of Paul Revere’s ride. They will not dim our light. When Archbishop Tutu stood up against apartheid, he said, “ you may have all the power, but you have already lost.” Every protest is another indication, they have already lost. We will NOT give in to fascism, cruelty, and despair. We shall overcome. We are stronger than they are and our empathy and love will win. #resist

As a Canadian, this gave me goosebumps! We have a Federal election coming up at the end of this month and I so hope we don't go down the same road!

For clarification, I signed up to the Washington Post before my husband and I took our first vacation to the US. I canceled my Washington Post subscription and cancelled our vacation to the US, once Trump was elected.

It is horrifying to read just how quickly everything changed, and not for the better, when Trump assumed power.

Wishing you all the best!

Canada is a week away from electing our next Prime Minister. The mis-information media is going strong here, like I have never seen before!

Because the whole world is now pretty much connected, it is very easy for someone anywhere in the world to post pretty much anything they want, even in our small city group. Sadly too many people believe the Negative Nellys, the scaremongers, the outright lies and share the posts!

So I am now understanding now how easy it is for people to fall down the rabbit hole. Critical thinking skills are a must in this day and age. Oh, and I am sure my husband wouldn't get across the border with his negative Trump posts, lol.
