Among hunters, know your prey is a vital part of having a successful hunt (I am not one by the way), but it is good to reflect on.I f tRump is our target/prey how better to know him than with people who have been too close to the Orange Ogre. I certainly will read it!
Orange Ogre - another good one (I will use this). So funny/sad that you don't have to clarify,. Everyone knows who you are talking about-even with the new different names.
You should look up Jimmy Kimmel, he and his writers probably have 1,000 names for Angry Dementia Don over these past 10 years! You will be in tears laughing!
I have a thousand of them. One Congresswoman said after he was elected the first time she would never use his real name. She just referred to him as 45. I liked the idea, but I like the snarky nicknames. They are all free for use.
What meaneth "coincidence?" Last evening my online poetry group was treated to a poem by Mrs. Parker which is new to me. It fit the evening's non-topical theme, but we all decided to skip on by, given its relevance to the horrors of current events. And here is an appropriate time for it. Thanks to you, E. Jean Carroll.
Floofkins, I'd forgotten how wicked you can be, but it's always smile-inducing and right on the mark. And is that really PGW? I've known him as a naughty boy, but, hmmm... Time to re-read, it seems.
Yep, Good Gnu is PGW! It's far longer than the 4 lines I quoted and is all about PGW skewering the upper class obsession with hunting innocent animals -- like, wow, really, you want to shoot a GNU for heaven sakes??? I've always loved the first 2 lines. Seemed apropos here.
I do adore PGW (tolerant patient Jeeves and bumbling Wooster, et al the miscellaneous twits and morons) -- wonderful satires!
E. Jean Carroll didn’t just win a case—she drop-kicked the patriarchal playbook into the nearest flaming dumpster and smiled while doing it. Absolute icon.
This book club pick isn’t just a nod to justice, it’s a middle finger to the cowardice of institutions still tiptoeing around Trump like he’s a toddler with a tiara instead of a walking indictment. Count me in, Andy. I’m bringing tea, questions, and a fireproof copy of the Constitution.
This is so cool! just this week I pledged royalties from my memoir Itching to Love, The Story of a Dog to NPR since many chapters come from stories I broadcast on Morning Edition. Shelleymickle.com
Book duly ordered, thanks to you. What a great idea, circumventing Amazon!! I stopped using them weeks ago, but to go directly to an independent bookseller is perfectly delightful.
Can't wait for the book. GOOD FOR HER!! GOOD FOR YOU!! YAAAAY!!
I stopped buying books from Amazon years and years ago. Now I NEVER buy anything from them if I can find another source. I've used bookshop.org many times.
ThriftBooks is an independent online retailer of used books, founded by Daryl Butcher and Jason Meyer in 2003. It is not owned by Amazon, although it does sell books on Amazon Marketplace in addition to its own website.
I hate getting stuff I order on EBay from either Amazon or Walmart. I don't remember it happening at ThriftBooks. Vice versa, I've gotten quite a few on EBay that are from ThriftBooks!
We have a wonderful independent book store in the Central West End of St. Louis, Left Bank Books, within walking distance of our house. Guess I’ll take a walk over & check out E Jean’s book.
I still use Barnes & Noble, since they offer my book. So does amazon, but I don't know if there's a Rump connection with B&N. Certainly amazon has always cheated me royally, including deleting five-star reviews, claiming those people must be related? to me. From the git-go, they sold my Kindle for free, suddenly and without my permission, and they recently sent me a check for 4c - which actually cost them more to mail it than for me to cash it!! No explanation. Royalties, I suppose... ack!!
Of course, you can always go directly to drjudithschlesinger.com to buy it (plug, plug - sorry for the marketing moment, Andy!). I used an independent bookseller, Lulu, for the second edition.
I don’t think they, B&N, are involved with this regime because I walked into their store just yesterday and saw a table filled with books. There was a large sign stating “Banned Books”!
My wife had a good laugh over today’s column! We’ll get the book! ( of course all of this is pathetic rather than funny—but I guess you gotta laugh to keep from always crying!).
I call it one of our tools in our Resistance Toolbox. That is why Andy is my top three reads in the morning: Heather Cox Richardson, Richard Hubbell and then Andy. I need satire and humor after ready the first two.
You might want to add Joyce Vance-Civil Discourse-to your daily read. She breaks down all the legal issues and ends every article with ‘We’re all in this together’.
So true! Before work I read Heather Cox Richardson, Zeteo, Robert Reich and Jared Yates Sexton and then Andy, Jeff Tiedrich and Dash Dobrofsky for witty commentary and satire. Sometimes I go back and read all the comments, too -- can't do that in the am or I'll be late...
Let's not forget the first woman who courageously stood up to Trump... Stormy wrote a pretty good book as well, and inspired me to create a series of TDS art projects using GPS: https://youtube.com/shorts/eldClpwjzhE?si=ebR54rFM_mYlwkst
As always, Andy, your headline is a reason to smile (h/t to Dan Rather’s weekly Sunday substack). Carroll’s title is a winner, imo, and your Book Club idea is terrific! What a way to start my day - a reason to buy another book (not that I “need” a reason). I NEVER buy books from Amazon (or anything else), and BetterWorldBooks.com is a wonderful source of used and new books, btw. Enjoy everyone’s excitement about your book club, Andy.
It's always great to hear how people find independent bookstores wherever they live. There are several here in NYC, so I realize how fortunate I am in that regard. I do try to buy used books whenever possible; I'm a big believer in repurposing, recycling, and composting, so used books fit into that category!
I've been trying to get all my friends to either buy from a local small bookseller or order from Bookshop ever since back when their employees tried to unionize. Thanks so much Andy, for promoting anti-Amazon action! (And that Mousse is as adorable as ever; hope Cookie has adjusted.)
Yes, downsizing and decluttering is what we do at a certain age. I envy those who never clutter. I don't personally know anyone like that, but I know people who hide it better. 🤣😏🤔
This is going to be so much fun! I hope a lot of you will join me in the book club! ♥️
Nice epithet. I also like the Tangerine Twit.
Sometimes I reference the So-Called Ruler of the US, or SCROTUS.
Same. I vowed to never use Orange Menace's real name in the same sentence with "President.' Works for me.
Same here I have never called him P*******t tRump.
I just use trump. No capitalization.
I use tRump because Rump is so descriptive
I call him SPOTUS. (Sexual Predator of the United States) Actually the P can stand for predator, pervert or perpetrator because they all apply.
I love that -- and will adopt using it, if I may...?
Absolutely! I’d love for that to catch on as one of his official titles.
My nickname for him is Idiot Orange.
Agent Orange is good, too!
Shrewd observation!
Andy! Andy! Andy!
I
can
not
wait
till
next
Monday!!!
We will turn Substack into
the Algonquin Round Table.
And YOU are Dorothy Parker
What meaneth "coincidence?" Last evening my online poetry group was treated to a poem by Mrs. Parker which is new to me. DOROTHY PARKER - "FRUSTRATION"
If I had a shiny gun,
I could have a world of fun
Speeding bullets through the brains
Of the folk who give me pains;
Or had I some poison gas,
I could make the moments pass
Bumping off a number of
People whom I do not love.
But I have no lethal weapon-
Thus does Fate our pleasure step on!
So they still are quick and well
Who should be, by rights, in hell.
Boy howdy, do I relate! Love this, too -- Good Gnu by PG Wodehouse:
When cares attack and life seems black,
How sweet it is to pot a yak,
Or puncture hares and grizzly bears,
And others I could mention....
...And I, Floof, can think of a few, too
But restraint calls my name: Halloo? Halloo?
So I stopper my naughty wayward rumination
Whilst wishing them nasty cases of constipation.
Floofkins, I'd forgotten how wicked you can be, but it's always smile-inducing and right on the mark. And is that really PGW? I've known him as a naughty boy, but, hmmm... Time to re-read, it seems.

I read a couple of the Bertie and Jeeves books -- yes, a joy. Will look into the poetry. Thanks for the intro.
HA!!
Ha ha ha delicious

Let the righteous reading begin.
Toddler with a tiara. Ha!
BRAVA and BRAVO!!!
Or just BRAVI!
Sounds like a party!

I stopped buying books from Amazon years and years ago. Now I NEVER buy anything from them if I can find another source. I've used bookshop.org many times.
I use Thrift Books or go to my 2 local stores - Max Back's Cleveland Hts. Or Loganberry Larchmere Cleveland/Shaker Hts.
I love all three. Also, The Learned Owl (Hudson). I no longer live in CLE so I depend on Thrift Books, Better World Books, and bookshop.org.
Check out who owns Thrift Books. I seem to remember from years ago that it was not as independent as I thought.
Sometimes you try to go to the source of something and then it arrives in Amazonian packaging. Just sayin'...
ThriftBooks is an independent online retailer of used books, founded by Daryl Butcher and Jason Meyer in 2003. It is not owned by Amazon, although it does sell books on Amazon Marketplace in addition to its own website.

Aww! I miss Hudson and I’m so happy to hear that The Learned Owl is still around! I moved to NC 12 years ago.
We have a wonderful independent book store in the Central West End of St. Louis, Left Bank Books, within walking distance of our house. Guess I’ll take a walk over & check out E Jean’s book.
love bookshop.org... I don't use Amazon or Barnes & Noble any longer

Yay B&N!!!
Three cheers!
Ordered!
She’s my type
Thank you for promoting this author. She deserves our gratitude and lots more.
My wife had a good laugh over today’s column! We’ll get the book! ( of course all of this is pathetic rather than funny—but I guess you gotta laugh to keep from always crying!).
Today’s post is actually something to be happy about!
I agree! I always loved reading her column - I think in Elle magazine. Should be a juicy read!
I'm subscribed, too. Love her sign- off. Also suggest The Contrarian.
I actually have been a member/follower for a while now. I usually catch her later in the day. Her podcast yesterday was priceless.
Heather, Andy & Jay Kuo for legal analysis of the issues of the day, for me.
Add Heather Cox Richardson! Brilliant historian!
Same here...(but it's ROBERT Hubbell)...I favor TBR as the humor does more for me than anything!!!
Thanks. Not the first time I have done that!
Me too, Paula!
Yet another reason I love following you - thanks for linking to Bookshop.org instead of … that other place! You are consistently wonderful.
It’s a win for the good guys!
Let's not forget the first woman who courageously stood up to Trump... Stormy wrote a pretty good book as well, and inspired me to create a series of TDS art projects using GPS: https://youtube.com/shorts/eldClpwjzhE?si=ebR54rFM_mYlwkst
I love Stormy!
Can you imagine a book co-authored by both Stormy and E. Jean? That would be some duet!
Or all of the women he has assaulted or cheated with. I have a title: F Your Nondisclosure.
So admirable for the simple fact of being able to stay a normal sane person while surrounded by the ultimate ignoramity (did I just make up a word)?
“Ignoramity “
Just rolls off the tongue, so to speak.
(Pun alert)
As always, Andy, your headline is a reason to smile (h/t to Dan Rather’s weekly Sunday substack). Carroll’s title is a winner, imo, and your Book Club idea is terrific! Quit Amazon entirely early in the first term of the psychopath’s presidency. Have 2 independent bookstores that I love in CT and VT.
It's always great to hear how people find independent bookstores wherever they live. There are several here in NYC, so I realize how fortunate I am in that regard. I do try to buy used books whenever possible; I'm a big believer in repurposing, recycling, and composting, so used books fit into that category!
Have you checked out Thriftbooks? ( on line)
BTW, in NYC, the Strand is my idea of paradise.
When I lived on St Mark's Place, I love love loved the Strand. Now I am in California so cannot walk over to it anymore.
Me, too!!
BUT I always like to consider the author -- if an author is well off or rich, I'll buy used -- if an author actually needs the bucks, I'll buy new.
That’s a great way of deciding how to buy, Floofie.
Not sure we are making much of a dent in Bezos’ profits, though.
So do libraries.
The original working title was "Is It In Yet?", but I think she chose a classier title in the end.
I've been trying to get all my friends to either buy from a local small bookseller or order from Bookshop ever since back when their employees tried to unionize. Thanks so much Andy, for promoting anti-Amazon action! (And that Mousse is as adorable as ever; hope Cookie has adjusted.)
Getting there!
I still use my local library for everything. Ebooks and hard copies. If they don't have it, they order it. Love my librarians, too.
Same here, ours is a gem. TY Arapahoe Library District in Colorado.
Plus constantly trying to declutter.
Yes, downsizing and decluttering is what we do at a certain age. I envy those who never clutter. I don't personally know anyone like that, but I know people who hide it better. 🤣😏🤔
Oh that is funny. This came up on a repeat showing of “Elsbeth,” a quirky, endearing TV cop show last night.
The suspect, a professional Marie Konda type with a sterile, uber-immaculate home, was hiding a large accumulation of stuff, in a big storage unit.
Laughed my head off.
When Amazon shut down the only successfully unionized warehouse in Canada (and the only Amazon warehouse in Quebec), that was it for me.
Bezos is a greedy hateful pig but people just love their convenience, eh?
I’m halfway through E Jean’s book now. Highly recommend!
She's an inspiration to all people who are afraid to stand up and speak out. I'm looking forward to reading her book! Thanks, Andy!
E. Jean Carroll is a SHEro!!!!
I’M IN!!!🎉🎉🎉
WAHOO!
Couldn’t have chosen a more perfect title!
Hurrah for E..J!!
